The article, by Beverly Dunivent, was called Christmas Kaleidoscope (Christmas Kaleidoscope (article) by Beverly Dunivent, Quilter&#8217;s Newsletter Magazine, December 1996, pg.25-27). I was enamored of the \u201ccenter is the not the center\u201d concept and the clever way the author used paper piecing to achieve square blocks and precision in a pattern consisting heavily of bias edges.<\/p>\n<p>I hadn\u2019t done much paper piecing at the time and was intrigued and excited. I gathered examples and cut strips and made patterns, but wasn\u2019t able to start the quilt until 1998. In a flurry, I made many, many blocks, but got stuck on the border. I wanted to complete each plate rather than cutting each plate off. I wasn&#8217;t skilled enough at the time to create the border design.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, I started the 26 Projects list , which provided the impetus to finish the piecing of the top and the border in November 2012. It is foundation pieced and machine quilted.<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of extra blocks scattered around.
