This one is not as successful as some of the others, but is still a nice piece.

This series started last year with a comment by a friend about using fabric right away so as to know whether to buy more of a certain pattern before it was discontinued. The idea was to find out before needing more fabric and not being able to find it. I envisioned this series as happening in tandem with my friend. Her idea was to do blocks and while I didn’t want to do that for FOTY 2008, I decided to do it for this piece. I cut the pieces and made blocks throughout the year, sewing the piece together in January of 2010. The block is a scaled down version of a design by Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle called Zanzibar from their book, The Quiltmaker’s Color Workshop.

The fabrics in this quilt were purchased during 2009. I combined two fabrics in a pleasing way to make the blocks and then focused on the outside color for placement of the blocks. I longarm quilted this quilt myself.

Materials:

100% cotton fabric

100% cotton thread

Techniques

Longarm machine quilted

Machine Pieced

Details:

Year finished: 2010

Size: 55″x59″

Quilted By:

Jaye Lapachet

Story This is the second in a series of Fabric of the Year quilts.
