Although gift-giving might involve an expectation of reciprocity, a gift is meant to be free. In many human societies, the act of mutually exchanging <a title=\"Money\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Money\">money<\/a>, <a title=\"Property\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Property\">goods<\/a>, etc. may contribute to social cohesion. Economists have elaborated the <a title=\"Economics\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Economics\">economics<\/a> of gift-giving into the notion of a <a title=\"Gift economy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gift_economy\">gift economy<\/a>.
