The term also refers to the plant itself.<\/p>\n<p>After <a title=\"Water\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Water\">water<\/a>, tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Macfarlane_1-0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tea#cite_note-Macfarlane-1\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> It has a cooling, slightly bitter, <a title=\"Astringent\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Astringent\">astringent<\/a> flavour which many people enjoy.<sup id=\"cite_ref-ody_2-0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tea#cite_note-ody-2\">[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The phrase <em><a title=\"Herbal tea\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Herbal_tea\">herbal tea<\/a><\/em> usually refers to infusions of fruit or herbs made without the tea plant, such as <em><a title=\"Rosehip\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rosehip\">rosehip<\/a> tea<\/em> or <em><a title=\"Chamomile\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chamomile\">chamomile<\/a> tea<\/em>.
