The word fresco (<a title=\"Italian language\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italian_language\">Italian<\/a>: <i><a title=\"wiktionary:affresco\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/affresco\">affresco<\/a><\/i>) is derived from the Italian adjective <i><a title=\"wiktionary:fresco\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/fresco#Italian\">fresco<\/a><\/i> meaning &#8220;fresh&#8221;. Fresco may thus be contrasted with <i><a title=\"wiktionary:secco\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/secco\">secco<\/a><\/i> mural painting techniques, on plasters of lime, earth, or gypsum, or applied to supplement painting in fresco.
