Laughter can arise from such activities as being tickled,<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laughter#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> or from humorous stories or thoughts.<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laughter#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> Most commonly, it is considered a visual expression of a number of positive emotional states, such as joy, mirth, <a title=\"Happiness\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Happiness\">happiness<\/a>, <a title=\"Relief\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Relief\">relief<\/a>, etc. On some occasions, however, it may be caused by contrary emotional states such as embarrassment, apology, or confusion (&#8220;<a title=\"Nervous laughter\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nervous_laughter\">nervous laughter<\/a>)&#8221; or <a title=\"Courtesy laugh\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Courtesy_laugh\">courtesy laugh<\/a>. Factors such as age, gender, education, language, and culture are determinant factors<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laughter#cite_note-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup> as to whether a person will experience laughter in a given situation<\/p>\n<p>Laughter is a part of <a title=\"Human behavior\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Human_behavior\">human behavior<\/a> regulated by the <a title=\"Brain\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brain\">brain<\/a>, helping humans clarify their intentions in <a title=\"Social interaction\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_interaction\">social interaction<\/a> and providing an emotional context to conversations. Laughter is used as a signal for being part of a group \u2014 it signals acceptance and positive interactions with others.
