{"id":227,"date":"2007-04-16T05:09:00","date_gmt":"2007-04-16T12:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/cross-block-and-royal-cross\/"},"modified":"2022-08-02T16:22:27","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T23:22:27","slug":"cross-block-and-royal-cross","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/cross-block-and-royal-cross\/","title":{"rendered":"Cross Block and Royal Cross"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The research of the real name of the Cross Block started with a stray comment I made on a list saying I wondered what the real name of my block was.<\/p>\n<p>That sent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sarahannsmith.blogspot.com\">Sarah<\/a> on a frenzy of Googling, where she found that the Library of Congress has <a href=\"http:\/\/memory.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/displayPhoto.pl?path=\/afc\/afcqltle\/images\/le0&amp;topImages=le060r.jpg&amp;topLinks=le060v.jpg,le060u.tif&amp;displayProfile=0&amp;dir=ammem&amp;itemLink=S?ammem\/qlt:@FIELD(SUBJ+@od1(+pattern++royal+cross+))\">quilt photo<\/a> called Royal Cross that has similar bones to the Cross Block. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sarahannsmith.com\">Sarah<\/a> also found that Tazzie has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocities.com\/tsniedze\/royalcross.html\">pattern<\/a> for the Royal Cross.<\/p>\n<p>Then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcrossing.com\/friend\/LeslieNoon\">Leslie<\/a> chimed in with the sudden realization that she had a quilt from her Grandma in this [Royal Cross] pattern. My block and the Royal Cross look similar in the middle, but the outside of the Royal Cross looks like it is meant to draw attention to those squares in the corner. I can&#8217;t say much about that as I went on and on in <a href=\"https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2007\/02\/the-center-is-not-the-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one post<\/a> about the center of this, among other patterns, not actually being the center. I&#8217;ll have to look through the Barbara Brackman book and the Kansas City Star books and see what I can find.
