Check your seam allowance before you begin. If you don&#8217;t know how to do that, there are resources available, including one from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.connectingthreads.com\/tutorials\/How_to_Sew_an_Accurate_Quarter_Inch_Seam_Allowance__D95.html\" target=\"_blank\">Connecting Threads<\/a> and from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftsy.com\/blog\/2014\/02\/accurate-quarter-seam-allowance\/\" target=\"_blank\">Craftsy<\/a>. Search the web for others.<\/li>\n<li>You will be directed to use the <a title=\"Triangle Technique\" href=\"http:\/\/www.artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/triangle-technique\/\" target=\"_blank\">Triangle Technique<\/a>. Make sure you have the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/HST-Size-Chart-Branded2.pdf\">chart<\/a> as well as the instructions handy.<\/li>\n<li>Respect the bias.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Templates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You really only a need a template for the basket handle. If you are using templates for all of your pieces, then prepare all the templates for pieces in the patterns as directed below.<\/p>\n<p>Prepare pattern for your basket handle template by printing two copies of the pattern. I prefer to do this first so when I get into the throes of sewing I don&#8217;t have to stop and fiddle around with templates.<\/p>\n<p>You will eventually place one copy of the pattern in your binder, but keep it handy so you can use it as reference.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nota bene<\/em>: You probably know how to make templates. Rough cut some pieces and press them with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0018N8B0E\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=artquiltmaker-20&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B0018N8B0E&amp;linkId=853bac816b6ebd9227447b7669892780\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Ellen\u2019s Best Press<\/a> to help deal with the bias. Trace carefully without pulling or tugging at the fabric. You will be dealing with some bias on the curves. You will need to carefully move your hand along the template to keep it in place while you trace. You will need at least two fabrics for this part. In my example I am using a scarlet red and a medium blue. This helps to position the template properly and eventually cut it accurately.<\/p>\n<p>** Fine cut means that you cut the template out very exactly and carefully getting rid of any extra paper and template material used when you rough cut.
