Not cold like Minnesota or upstate New York, but a little on the dry and bitter side for us. This inspired me to get started on Winer even though we are still officially in Autumn. (from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Winter\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Snow boots, mittens, hats, parkas, snow shoes, long underwear, Smartwool socks<\/p>\n<p>Ice scrapers<\/p>\n<p>Isicles<\/p>\n<p>ice storm<\/p>\n<p>Weather safety and awareness<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/famouspoetsandpoems.com\/thematic_poems\/winter_poems.html\" target=\"_blank\">Winter poems<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/famouspoetsandpoems.com\/poets\/claude_mckay\/poems\/1791.html\" target=\"_blank\">Winter in the Country by Claude McKay<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nSweet life! how lovely to be here<br \/>\nAnd feel the soft sea-laden breeze<br \/>\nStrike my flushed face, the spruce&#8217;s fair<br \/>\nFree limbs to see, the lesser trees&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Bare hands to touch, the sparrow&#8217;s cheep<br \/>\nTo heed, and watch his nimble flight<br \/>\nAbove the short brown grass asleep.<br \/>\nLove glorious in his friendly might,<\/p>\n<p>Music that every heart could bless,<br \/>\nAnd thoughts of life serene, divine,<br \/>\nBeyond my power to express,<br \/>\nCrowd round this lifted heart of mine!<\/p>\n<p>But oh! to leave this paradise<br \/>\nFor the city&#8217;s dirty basement room,<br \/>\nWhere, beauty hidden from the eyes,<br \/>\nA table, bed, bureau, and broom<\/p>\n<p>In corner set, two crippled chairs<br \/>\nAll covered up with dust and grim<br \/>\nWith hideousness and scars of years,<br \/>\nAnd gaslight burning weird and dim,<\/p>\n<p>Will welcome me . . . And yet, and yet<br \/>\nThis very wind, the winter birds<br \/>\nThe glory of the soft sunset,<br \/>\nCome there to me in words.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/famouspoetsandpoems.com\/poets\/robert_frost\/poems\/725.html\" target=\"_blank\">A Winter Eden by Robert Frost<\/a><br \/>\nA winter garden in an alder swamp,<br \/>\nWhere conies now come out to sun and romp,<br \/>\nAs near a paradise as it can be<br \/>\nAnd not melt snow or start a dormant tree.<\/p>\n<p>It lifts existence on a plane of snow<br \/>\nOne level higher than the earth below,<br \/>\nOne level nearer heaven overhead,<br \/>\nAnd last year&#8217;s berries shining scarlet red.<\/p>\n<p>It lifts a gaunt luxuriating beast<br \/>\nWhere he can stretch and hold his highest feat<br \/>\nOn some wild apple tree&#8217;s young tender bark,<br \/>\nWhat well may prove the year&#8217;s high girdle mark.<\/p>\n<p>So near to paradise all pairing ends:<br \/>\nHere loveless birds now flock as winter friends,<br \/>\nContent with bud-inspecting.
