I found a layer cake I liked at $15 off and found some American Made Brands background at a $1 off per yard. I got the layer cake (left) at Fabric Depot in Portland. That place is huge-HUGE and they were having a pretty good sale. Yes, both new items add to my fabric usage totals, but I am hopeful that I&#8217;ll be able to finish something larger than a handbag soon.<\/p>\n<p>The charcoal is from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2017\/05\/yoders-dept-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yoder&#8217;s<\/a> in Shipshewana, Indiana. They had the whole line, which was awesome! I got a bit more than I needed, but you know, mistakes. The fabric is now washed so I can start cutting.<\/p>\n<p>The quilt is called the Layer Cake Explosion. You can find the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.craftsy.com\/quilting\/patterns\/layer-cake-explosion-mystery-qal\/315901\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free pattern on Craftsy<\/a>. I did look at the templates for the alternate block and I am thinking I might do something else. I am not a fan of the way that little triangle looks. We will see.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern calls for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00P04JNRM\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=artquiltmaker-20&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B00P04JNRM&amp;linkId=a6058f2752f18c0dbf35deb263fcbb56\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Creative Grids Stripology Ruler<\/a>. There is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=554fnInkoBo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube video <\/a>which shows you how to use this ruler. As much as I love rulers, I don&#8217;t think I will be using it. I think I will use my Accuquilt, though it is possible I don&#8217;t have the right die for the strip size.
