It is a companion to the <a href=\"http:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2009\/12\/gifted-pencil-roll\/\" target=\"_blank\">pencil roll I made for her birthday<\/a>. This is actually the third journal cover I have made and this one went together the fastest and looks the best. I tried to think of it as a design challenge after my initial disappointment. I fussy cut a tree out of the small piece of fabric I had and raw edge appliqued it to the front. The directions I used are a combination of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allpeoplequilt.com\/quarterlychallenge\/Get-Organized.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">pattern from Allpeoplequilt.com<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/journal-covers-from-exuberant-color-blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">directions on the Exuberent color site<\/a> (they don&#8217;t print well) and my own trial and error and notes from previous journal covers. I use the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shopmiquelrius.com\/servlet\/the-291\/*Spot-Notebook-4\/Detail\" target=\"_blank\">Miquelrius journals<\/a>, so those are the journals I bought and for which I made covers.
