She always brings something to work on after the meeting. I have brought things in the past and I seriously thought about bringing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/bamaqg-irr-top-ready\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAMaQG IRR<\/a> quilt to stitch on. I think I need to try my hand at Big Stitch again at home before I start Big Stitching in public.<\/p>\n<p>This time she brought scraps. She brought them to sort out. I didn&#8217;t get to ask her how she normally stores them. What I saw was a big bag in which they were shoved.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40188\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40188\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/20180414_1559423809578351982567532.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40188\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/20180414_1559423809578351982567532-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Alison's String Blocks\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/20180414_1559423809578351982567532-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/20180414_1559423809578351982567532-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/20180414_1559423809578351982567532-1200x1600.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 85vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alison&#8217;s String Blocks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Alison was sorting scraps to make these 12\/5 x 4.5 rectangles to make a quilt from a book called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1617453366\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=artquiltmaker-20&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=1617453366&amp;linkId=33e7dcbbc73b2c5875a74b43d900d820\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No Scrap Left Behind<\/a>. She started out using a foundation (tracing paper), but found after a few blocks that she didn&#8217;t need it. This is definitely a block you make with what you have and then trim to the right size.<\/p>\n<p>I like how the sizes of the strips are different. Alison said that she doesn&#8217;t use any strips larger than 2.5&#8243; wide and I think that makes sense. I like the skinny little strips as well. They add a bit of pop to the block. I am kind of excited to try this, not that I am done making the Bias Rectangles for more of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2018\/04\/finished-hrt-donation-top-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spiky 16 patch quilts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This block sparked my interest. I have a ton of scraps. I do use them, but the piles are not getting any smaller. This block would enable me to use different scraps together. Once finished, I could put the blocks together in different ways to make interesting and fun donation quilts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alison is really great.
