I have the start of an idea for a quilt using this shape, though I am still finalizing the details. The closest I have come to drawing it out or designing it is the<a href=\"https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/bubble-quilt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Bubble (circle) donation quilt<\/a> I made with Gerre a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since I learned to make these Orange Peel Circles, I have wanted to write a tutorial. I wanted to remember how to make these shapes whenever the desire arose and the best way is to post something here. I also wanted to share the knowledge with you so YOU would have another use for your <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3wQlpjN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clammy<\/a>** rulers. In a lull in the class, Latifah showed me two ways to make this shape. I broke up the tutorials so you could focus on one method at a time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Supply List<\/strong>: (same as for the <a href=\"https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2024\/10\/tutorial-orange-peel-circle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first method<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clammy ruler &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3wPEvql\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12 inch<\/a>** or the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3wQlpjN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">8 inch<\/a>** or the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Qk0l4k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6 inch<\/a>** (any size works)<\/li>\n<li><em>Optional<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3MVl4pe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">45 mm rotary cutter<\/a>**<\/li>\n<li>28mm <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/46TGUCu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rotary Cutter<\/a>**<\/li>\n<li>Rotary Cutting <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3PTfg2e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mat<\/a>**<\/li>\n<li><em>Optional<\/em>, but very helpful: rotating cutting <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44BlY18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mat<\/a>** (The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3Yc1Fpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10&#8243; rotating cutting mat<\/a>** is also useful for smaller spaces)<\/li>\n<li>fabric (at least 2 different) &#8211; I used large-ish scraps for this tutorial<\/li>\n<li>pins<\/li>\n<li>Sewing machine\n<ul>\n<li>quarter inch foot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>thread<\/li>\n<li>Iron and ironing board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Notes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You need the directions for using the Clammy for this tutorial<\/li>\n<li>The<a href=\"https:\/\/artquiltmaker.com\/blog\/2024\/10\/tutorial-orange-peel-circle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> tutorial<\/a> for the first method was posted a few weeks ago. Adjust if you use other sizes.<\/p>\n<p>The directions for cutting the Orange Peel shape are on the front of the Clammy ruler. Throw the extra background into your scrap bin.<\/p>\n<p>Do the same again with a different fabric. For this step, however, I switched to a 28mm <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/46TGUCu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rotary cutter<\/a>**. It is easier for me to cut the inside circle with a smaller rotary cutter. If you are using the larger Clammy, then the 45mm will work. Again, the directions on the packaging will help you.<\/p>\n<p>Troubleshooting:&nbsp; If your circle is not whole (cut in half) when you open it, then you need to realign your fabric and make sure the f<em>old of your folded square is close to your body<\/em> before you cut.
