Check out the Intro and Part 1 on her blog. I have a lot going on so I may not do it this year. We’ll see.

My niece asked me to make her a pencil pouch with an elastic for using as a bookmark. Shockingly, I don’t have a pattern for something like that, so I had to go looking for one. I found one on the large side by Polka Dot Chair. I had forgotten about that site, so I was happy to be reacquainted with it. I also found a pencil holder easel pouch, which wasn’t what I wanted, but I could add an elastic to it. This is the one I really liked: Apple Green Cottage Easy Pen Case. It looks cool, is pretty easy and doesn’t cost $12.

Tools, Books, Fabric, Notions, Services & Supplies

MaryM told me about SuzyQuilts. She has a newsletter called The Cutting Table you can purchase for an annual fee.

I thought I had shared Arc Expressions with you, but I couldn’t find it. I heard about it from Sewfisticated. Arc Expressions provides templates for bag patterns from a variety of designers. The shop also offers a variety of non-designer specific useful templates such as rounded corners, boxing corners and strap placement. As an added bonus, this site is a great way to look at a variety of bag designs without hopping from site to site. The prices are not cheap, but worth it if you plan to make more than one of a pattern.

    Advent package

    Advent package: FQ packages

I received a very nice Advent gift the other day. At first I thought I had ordered something and forgotten, but no, Friend Julie sent me another Advent calendar. Remember the labels she sent a few years ago? Very kind! I thought it might be all solids – and it might be – but last year’s looks like prints are included as well. I hope there is not too much beige, but even if there is, it will be a fun activity for this year. Afterwards, ErinM and I went to Laci’s farther along Shattuck, on Adeline, in Berkeley. I thought I had been there, but if I have it has been so long that I really don’t remember. The shop is not a quilt shop and doesn’t sell fabric, but they did have a few quiltmaking items, such as templates. It is more of a needlework shop. They had tons of Perl Cotton type thread. I was impressed with the number of notions covering all different types of needlework including knitting, crochet, tatting, bobbin lace, etc. My stellar find was bag handles. I have a pair and a pattern, but have been reluctant to use them since I didn’t think I could get more. Laci’s had tons of all different kinds of bag handles. What a bonanza.

Media & Articles

SuzyQuilts has two articles about picking fabric for a quilt, part 1 and part 2.
