CPP Response #106: Kiss

I had been wanting to do this response for awhile and just never seemed to get to it. The other day, while waiting for the Young Man to finish an appointment, I decided just to do it. I didn’t have all of my previous response sketchbooks to which to refer, so the interior might look different.

Check out the original prompt.

I loved the video Danny Gregory shared and really tried hard to think about something fabulous to post for my response. I don’t know if what I have is fabulous (I mean, taking pictures of my breakfast for several mornings in a row. Really!), but I am satisfied. I do think I have a part 2 response in me, so stay tuned for that.

This is not part of my regular series of responses. I just had a desire to try my hand at responding in watercolors this time. I didn’t follow the color of the original photo, exactly. I used colors that were similar and made me happy, well, at least for the bottles and the tree. I drew the picture in a modified kind of not looking at the photo kind of way. I tried to look at the picture and not my paper, but I did glance at the paper now and again just to orient my pen. I didn’t draw enough lines for the tree and had to add them later. The tree needed more definition than the paint gave it.

The supplies I used were a set of Crayola water colors and a medium Pitt pen.

Yes, I am back in the saddle, too. I am working on the last few prompts from before the break, but back in the saddle.

This one is different from my normal style of response. I got a bug in my ear to do it this way after looking at some Zentangles, so voila’! I responded in a Zentangly kind of style.

One very exciting element of this photo that I noticed when I was processing the picture was the quality of the pen line. Oooh la la! I really like the way the line looks. If you click on the picture to enlarge it, you will see the line. You will also be able to see the detail of my inexpert drawing, which will hopefully encourage you to just respond. The pen I used is one that I use regularly for writing. It is a Pilot G-2 07.

CPP Response #107: Illuminate

I managed to sketch a study of my response to Illuminate. I decided to show that instead of doing a ‘final’ based on a comment I got from a reader who said she was hoping to get brave enough to join the project.

This is what I do when I work on my responses. I make a mess first and then carefully create the final in the sketchbook with all of the other responses. This one, if I didn’t show it in this form, would probably not make it to the final form. It was in my head, but it isn’t great. I needed to look up some doodles in another journal, because I was out of ideas. I don’t know which journal, so I would have to hunt. I don’t want to spend the time and really don’t have the inclination. That means that the photo above is the final.

You don’t have to do a masterpiece. Just do something.

My favorite cafe’ makes a reappearance in this response to Froth. I think it is my favorite, because of the Yergacheffe ad. Have I told you about that? I saw a poster in a Starbuck’s with a similar image. I took a picture of it for a friend who loves imagery of eyes. Somehow that image has stuck in my mind ever since. I love being inspired during my normal travels through my day.

This one was a challenge. I had the idea right away, but then didn’t get to Google very timely to find a picture of that machine they use in eye exams. I finally did, but the boys kept bumping me while I was trying to draw, which made me very growly. I was pleased they wanted to sit with me. 😉

THEN I didn’t know what to put on the bottom of the picture so I just left it blank. If something comes to me, I’ll add it in and repost.

How did you respond?
