CPP Response #181: Sink

One of the things I like to do on New Year’s Day is finish a quilt, craft or fabric project so that it sets the tone for the year. I should add”write thank you notes” to that list! I received so many lovely gifts this year, including a wonderful set of Staedler markers, and I still have “write thank you notes” on my to-do list.

I bring this up because, although I have tried the pens, earlier this week was the first time I had the opportunity to sit down and use them for project.

I love them. You, who got them for me, you know who you are: I love them.

Getting a new set of markers is fabulous. It brings back all sorts of wonderful memories of being a kid. As a 10 or 11 year old, I saved up $10.00 whole dollars to buy a set of 24 Pentel medium tip markers. I remember standing in stunned silence staring at the clerk in the Art Department at May Co when she asked for $11 something because of tax. At 40 cents a week allowance, it took me a few more weeks to save up for the tax. Boy! Did I take good care of those pens!

These new Staedler pens are really great markers.

Even though they are fine point I had no trouble coloring in sections of this response. Tools are important. They have made me excited about creating responses again.

CPP Response #180: Trapezoid

I had this one done when I posted #179, but somehow never got it posted.

I like the skirt (a lot of that like is the color), the shoes and the hair. Yes, the shoes are a bit skinny and no real woman could walk in them, but I still like them.

Take a look at the original prompt and create one of your own.

CPP Response #179: Wheel

I really wanted to draw and really nice looking wheel quilt as a response to this post, but I just didn’t have it in me.

This response is appropriate, though, since this is what I wish I were doing right now. Instead I went back to work this morning and am now driving the Young Man to an appointment and generally resuming my crazy life. Unless they have already put me in some kind of asylum for people being driven insane by lawyers.

CPP Response #177: Roll

I really couldn’t get my mind off of bread rolls, bread in a basket, sourdough rolls, etc. This is not helpful when a person eats a gluten free diet, so I tried to think of something else that would work and came up with “roll of the dice.”

The track on the game board looks a bit snake-y, but I think you can get the idea.

CPP Response #175: Needle

This is a little different than the previous few responses, but in line with some of the earlier ones. I really wanted to draw a threaded needle. I am trying to draw what pops into my head when I think about the word and am ready to draw. Within reason.

The thimble was an afterthought and I can’t tell if the thimble and needle are magically flying through the air or if they look like they are laying on the table.

CPP Response #173: Water

Repeating the flower and the counter after the previous response seemed to be the right thing to do. My kitchen window is similar to this, but looks out on the wall of my neighbor’s house. I’d love to paint a tromp l’oeil painting on the side, but I don’t know how they would react. I wonder if they would notice?

CPP Response #171: Perch
CPP Response #171: Perch

I cannot get this bird woman out of my mind. I have drawn her before and I am sure she will appear again. I think she represents more of an escape than wanting to fly. Here she is perched on the top of the building and ready to fly.

I was inspired by the idea of perching on the edge of a chair, but I didn’t want to draw someone perched on the edge of a chair. This idea came to me when I was looking through my sketchbook for the budgie photo and came across the response to prompt #119. I drew another woman ready to fly instead of the budgie. I think I like the feathers in this response better.

Take a look at the original prompt and draw, paint or sing something in response to it. I would love to see what you create.

Sometimes I paint myself, no pun intended, into a corner when I create these prompts and this was just such a prompt. After I posted it, I asked myself what I was thinking, because how could I recreate a painting that viewers would recognize. I still had nothing when i sat down to draw, but after creating a response to prompt #169, I flashed on this response.

CPP Response #170: Painting

The painting part could be better, but I was so relieved that I just put something down on paper.

This was a good lesson for me, because I often tell you to just take 5 minutes and I often spend more time on my responses.

The original prompt has some interesting words and terms. Take some time to create your own response in the media of your choice.

CPP Response #169: Name

I do like the things in my drawings to look odd, incomplete from your angle or out of place. I like when the viewer is looking at the scene from an odd location.

I am still trying to fill in the whole street scene like a puzzle. This is a closer view of the sign for the shop.

Take a look at the original prompt and create your own response in any media that makes you happy.

Sketching #166

In honor of my mom, whose birthday is this week, I decided to post a Creative Prompt Response.

Finally!

I know.

CPP Response #166: Growth
CPP Response #166: Growth

It took me a long time to finish Growth, because the green stalk took forever to color in.

I wanted to make the stalk look like it was growing out of the sidewalk, but I think I ended up with a kind of space alien, scary looking response rather than something fun, if odd. Oh, well. Immerhin.

I have decided to do the prompts in order even when I get behind. It is getting too hard to figure out which prompts I have and haven’t done.

You can see the original prompt and create your own response! Please do. I would love to have you join in.
