This an embroidery that my grandmother made for my wedding and just gave to me.
Frankly, I was stunned because
1. I didn’t know she did cross stitch. Crocheting yes. Cross stitch huh?
2. I have been married for 24 years. Where has this piece been all this time?
3. Where did she find it?
4. How did she find it?
5. How did she remember she had it? (I suspect she came across it when rummaging through something)
Don’t get me wrong, I like it and will probably get it framed. It just seems very strange to me.
I can understand most of it…having made things and lost them, or bought things and lost them (because, you know, I was putting them somewhere safe). Chances are she didn’t finish it in time for your wedding, so then, when she did finish it, she put it somewhere. It is lovely and what a fun surprise to get after 24 years!
Yes, definitely a fun surprise and the sentiment is great.
I love it! That reminds me of my baby quilt my mom presented to me unquilted when I turned 18. She said I was old enough to finish it myself now!
HAHA! That would be something. I can imagine an 10YO looking at a baby quilt, then back at her mom and really wondering… Does your mom still quilt?
Yup, I’ve put things away too, forgotten about them. It’s very cool that this has surfaced now and that you value the work and love put into it.
Super G is almost 90 so I cherish everything about her.
It’s such a lovely piece Jaye, you’re so lucky! Guess it’s better later than never right? :)))
Well, with my 25th coming up, in a way it is appropriate.
What a fantastic find and a wonderful keepsake!
Yes, I am pleased.
We found it when we cleaned out the den to put in new furniture (three years ago). Gramma did lots of all different kinds. There is a framed needlepoint in her bathroom – wharf scene, I think. She also has an embroidered quilt she started for Jimmy before he was born which needs to be finished.
So she did a lot of different kinds of needlework? Is that what you mean?
We can work on the embroidered quilt when we are down there…
It’s really beautiful, think of it as a 25th anniversary present maybe? I still have the wonderful cross-stitch your mom made for us hanging up with our wedding pictures
I love that cross stitch! It turned out so well. I am thinking of Super G’s cross stitch as a 25th anniversary gift.
