Warm Four Patch Fun

The Four Patch Fun blocks have been on the small design wall for a long time doing nothing, but annoying me. Annoying me, because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them.

I finally had a brainwave. I decided that I am going to divide my Four Patch Fun blocks into Warm and Cool like I did with the Warm Windmill blocks (and the cool!). Then I will give them to my friend who is raising her son’s children. One of the first quilts I made, Star Babies, when I bought my Janome 9000 was the quilt I made for her son.I was able to applique’ when I bought that machine, which was something I really wanted to do.

This seems like a good outcome for these blocks. Everyone needs a quilt.

  1. It’s seems elementary to separate by warm and cool but I’m always surprised how pleasing it is to a design to do it this way. I’ve had two quilts in particular that gained a lot of chaos control when I finally realized to organize in warm and cool zones of the quilt.

This may be something you’ve planned or something you’ve already seen, but my eyes see a four patch (or two?) in the upper right quadrant that aren’t oriented the same as the others.

    1. I am rereading that comment, and I don’t think I expressed the beginning right. I meant more like- In my own designing, I feel like at times I should have earlier realized that separating by warm and cool might be the answer I needed, but I didn’t. I love patchwork quilts and think this one is going to be great!

      1. Thanks! I know what you mean. It seems very basic to separate blocks in this way, but I don’t think we think of it very often. I have done it before and it works very well if you have a lot of blocks and don’t want to make a 120 x 120″ quilt!
