On my way to Portland two weeks ago, I stopped to sew with Mary M again. The last time was in 2023. I think we couldn’t get our schedules to mesh in 2024, but every time I have the chance to visit, I do.

We had a great time sewing and working on our projects. Mary has such a pleasant sewing room, which has room enough for three of us to work. Mary and I always seem to have a lot to talk about.
Since I last visited, a longarm has been added to the workroom. It didn’t impinge on the space IMO. She rearranged everything so there is still plenty of space to work and move around.

First, we worked on a fabric pull for a quilt she wants to make. She had it mostly handled, but I looked at what she had and suggested a few additions. Mary’s color sense is different than mine, but I like the colors she loves. It was very fun to get to work with them as I usually don’t put the combination together.

She was also stuck on a quilt she wants to enter into the 2026 Sisters Show. She stopped working on it because of a big (but easily fixable) mistake. I offered to rip out the error and then did so. It got her over a hump so she was able to move on with the rest of the quilt. When we returned earlier this week, she was well on her way to finishing the quilt.
Friend Julie worked on her YES coat and I worked on cutting out some gifts that I will be sewing next week.
On our way home, we stopped in again, but only stayed overnight. We had a two hour session talking about various projects. I was interested to see the bags Mary had in progress. She has a mini Aneela Hoey tool and supply bag in process from the book Stitched Organizers. I think I might want to make one. She had also made a portfolio from the same book. This might be a good gift for a group I am getting involved in next year. It is always so inspiring to talk with Mary.
