I do like the things in my drawings to look odd, incomplete from your angle or out of place. I like when the viewer is looking at the scene from an odd location.

I am still trying to fill in the whole street scene like a puzzle. This is a closer view of the sign for the shop.

In honor of my mom, whose birthday is this week, I decided to post a Creative Prompt Response.

I know.

It took me a long time to finish Growth, because the green stalk took forever to color in.

I wanted to make the stalk look like it was growing out of the sidewalk, but I think I ended up with a kind of space alien, scary looking response rather than something fun, if odd. Oh, well. Immerhin.

I have decided to do the prompts in order even when I get behind. It is getting too hard to figure out which prompts I have and haven’t done.

I was sitting in a meeting dreaming of being on a beach with my dearest and a drink looking out at the sea. I needed a vacation and this was my response. It is a lot more detailed than the others I have been drawing lately.

I tried to create a drive-in movie showing the James Bond movie with Jane Seymour as Solitaire. It didn’t work out, so I looked through my completed drawings and was inspired to draw this. I need some practice on faces and proportion of bodies. I’ll get there some day!

This drawing was ready weeks ago and I don’t know why I didn’t post it.

I don’t need my computer for a few days so I took it to be repaired….then I remembered I wanted to post tonight. Murphy’s Law, I suppose, bit I am making due. I may replace the photos in the future.

I used scarlet and a more turquoisey, but not quite, blue rathwr than the traditional colors. I like how this drawing came out.

The Ferry response didn’t come out quite as expected. I hope you can tell what it is. I should have gone out behind my building and looked at what those ferries look like. Oh well, in the world I am crearing they are a bit clunky and old fashioned.

I think there will be some more wings in the future of these responses because I need more practice with wings. I do find that looking at the thing helps. Unfortunately, I do not have the opportunity to look at wings very often.

There is a shop downstairs from my work that does art in the foam on the top of their lattes and cappucinos. The art is much more diffuse than what I have drawn. The pens I use don’t blur very well.

Sometimes, I know a part of what I want to draw in my response, but can’t quite figure out how to fit it into a cohesive whole. Helping some visitors review maps and plan a trip gave me the answer I needed for this prompt.

I have always liked compasses (compaii??) and am particularly fond of Mariner’s Compasses in quiltmaking. I have made one or two in my quilting career and have plans for more.

I also like this drawing because it reflects back on some previous drawings.

This is also a redo, if an inadvertent one. I really like the photo I took for the first response, but it didn’t come out very well and it is always embarrassing to post a less than stellar photo.

Frankly, I had forgotten that I had responded (another good reason to keep up!) and hadn’t crossed that one off my list. It is always good to draw, so we’ll go with that.

Do you like my busses? Can you tell it is a bus? I think they are funny, but cute also.

I saw a bridge like this loom up in front of the rental car I was driving. It was in Massachusetts and a friend and I were leaving Boston to attend a meeting.

In my drawing the supports of the bridge are foreshortened a bit more than the real things, but, hopefully, you have seen a bridge like this and know what I am getting at.

I worked really hard on this to get it to look like there was perspective. I am pretty pleased with the job I did even though I think the building on the left would fall down in real life. It did not come out as expected, but doesn’t look like a mistake either.

I was surprised to find that I drew it from a bird’s eye view rather than a street view as intended. That is ok. I can work on that in another drawing if I decide to use this location again.

Will I subject you to multitudes of Creative Prompt Responses this week? I believe so. I am not in a good space for sewing this week. The Corner Store (and some family events) has knocked me off my game.

I wanted to do a woman with butterfly wings similar to some others I have done. I really had trouble with the symmetry of the wings. Finally, my mom, my sometimes drawing teacher when I will let her, suggested that I trace a butterfly. I thought that was cheating, but did it anyway and am fairly pleased with the way it came out. Of course, it is quite giant and I think the creature would create real alarm if seen in real life. Good thing my drawings are not real life. That I know of. 😉

I know I have said this before, but sometimes I really do wonder what has possessed me when I pick the words for the prompt. Some prove to be more challenging for me than others. Know when I select the word, I select it for the promise of what the response can be and not what I have in my mind. I often do not have a response in my mind when create the prompt.

This one was part of the giant series of drawings I did over a few evenings. I really wanted to catch up with the ones I missed/neglected. I can always go back and redo some as I did with Beckon, so the ones that aren’t as detailed may get a redo someday.

I don’t know why I am making excuses, but I don’t feel that this response is up to my usual standards. I guess I have to be ok with it.

I realized that I already drew a response for ‘Beckon,’but I must have had a reason for keeping it on the list. I do like this one better than the first. I didn’t include a lot of detail. I might go back and add more detail later, but perhaps not.
