ATCs for CQFA

Maureen is a great ATC Shepard for CQFA. She reminds us to get our ATCs done and how many there will be to exchange. At the meeting today we will be exchanging 4 each. I worked on mine a couple of Fridays ago when I kicked the boys out of the house and spent the day sewing. I don’t normally sew during the week, but don’t have as much time so forced myself to pretend it was the weekend and sewed.

I wanted to use the current Creative Prompt and remembered an African fabric I bought with eyes on it. Amazingly, I was able to find it and use it. First, I found the mask fabric, which I thought would work. I wasn’t as happy using it, so I went back for the eyes.

I thought of Pamela Allen the whole time I was working on these as she has a thing for eyes.

I made an additional 8 (only 6 shown above) thinking that we would be exchanging in multiples of 4. Then I went back and read her message and found that she only wanted us to bring 4. No problem. Now I can send one to a friend and keep one for another project I am working on.

In case you can’t tell, I am making a series. The two highlighted above are first in the series and I thought I would bring them along (had to finish them first!) and see if anyone didn’t get the first series.

Sketching #50

When I took art classes in college I always enjoyed contour drawing. Contour drawing is where you look at the object you are drawing and NOT at your paper.

I got quite good at it and decided that I would use that technique for my Inspiration drawing. It took me awhile to actually get to it and when I finally did I just sat down and drew with what I had – no fancy drawing book or paper or pen. I used the following two photos as the basis for my inspiration drawings.

I left a little of the notebook page in when I cropped the picture so you could see that I just used my working journal; I didn’t use anything special. I did the drawing at a Starbuck’s using a picture on my phone and the pen I had in my purse.

Here is the place setting:

This one came out much better. I am out of practice using this technique. One of the things I like about contour drawing is the movement you get in the drawing.

I often sit down at my sketchbook and wonder whose dumb idea the current word is? Then I remind myself it was mine and resolve to find a better word for the next week.

This one actually formed in my head pretty quickly. I wanted to look up an actually picture of Big Ben and Parliament, but was, ultimately, too lazy.

I really need to get back to my street scenes.

Sketching #51

In addition to this post being about a creative prompt response, since it has hearts, it will also be a Valentine’s wish for you!

Here are some of the designs I was working on. What I wanted to draw was a Baltimore Album Quilt in the window of the shop I have been drawing. I started to test the basket design and just didn’t feel the love. I have been feeling a little impatient lately and I think my inability to settle on these last few drawings is a symptom.

I did this study after the main part of the hand drawing. I was trying to see if I could add more detail and make the piece look better.

One World One Heart Update

On Monday, per the game directions, I posted about participating in the One World One Heart blog project. I have never done anything like it and have found it to be interesting. I haven’t had much of a chance to look at the other blogs, sadly, though I have looked at a few.

I am madly approving comments from people that come to visit. Most visitors just leave a quick comment, but the ones who take the time to tell me where they are coming from make it really interesting for me. Visitors have come from such places as:

Roc’s Blog – Inspiration from One Heart One World

I think one of Lisa‘s idea’s with One World One Heart was to show off different artists’ work. It worked for me.

I was checking a comment (some of the comments look just like spam – bleah!) on the OWOH post and was taken to Roc’s blog. As you know, I am a wannabe visual journaler and just haven’t quite gotten there yet. Don’t worry, I am not giving up.

I was thrilled to see Roc’s blog, because her visual journaling work is wonderful. I really like the textures and the different imagery she uses.

I think one of my issues with visual journaling is that it looks messy. I know that the actual process is messy and I am not into messy, especially painting and such. However, the pages look messy. There is a lot of stuff on them. I like that look, but it is also keeping me from trying. That sounds like it makes no sense. I guess I need a therapist to work on that weirdness!

In any case, enjoy Roc’s blog.
