Stars for San Bruno

On September 10, 2010 a gas line exploded and leveled a neighborhood near where we live. It was big news at the time, but the world has moved on. In that neighborhood lived our cousin. His house was not destroyed, but was severely damaged. Also, the Young Man’s school friend lived there. His house was destroyed and he and his father ran for their lives.

My mom put out a call for blocks that we can make into quilts for these families and we received our first block today. One is promised and one is in the mail.

Barsha taught sewing in a local county for years before she retired. She is a gifted seamstress and I go to her when I need new pants. 😉 I first met her through a local guild. She is also a gifted quiltmaker, teacher and wearables artist. She has a wonderful, light studio and knows how to use a serger.

I spent several hours having a test at one of the labs at the hospital on Friday. It wasn’t invasive or painful, so I spent time reading, drawing, writing in my journal and staring at the wall.

I took the easy interpretation out and used the concept of moving house in my response. I was intrigued by the view out the window look of my last response and wanted to work with that a little more. I still don’t have a really good handle on cars, but will work on that some other time.

Here are the fabrics donated by the FABULOUS Birch Fabrics/FabricWorm for the CQFA ATC Raffle prize. I was so pleased that Cynthia agreed to donate a prize and even more pleased when I saw the grouping.

I didn’t know what to suggest she send, so the black and whites will be perfect for such an artsy group. I wouldn’t like to presume to know the colors that everyone likes. Black and whites will go with any other fabrics that people enjoy.

People really came through and we collected at least 30 ATCs, as well as a few postcards, for the show. I was so pleased.

This drawing, which I thought would be the highlight, turned into a minor detail at the meeting. The meeting was completely action packed. Nancy moved things along. We did get to do regular show and tell, which I always enjoy. C&T Publishing Marketing Manager, Lisa Fulmer, came and brought a bunch of prizes as well. It was a wonderful meeting and I was so pleased to see new faces and so pleased that everyone stepped up to support the show.
