La Pass Month 10 in Process

I am speeding along in sewing the Month 10 rosette together. I will probably have to find another project on which work for the rest of the month. I am making good progress.

I changed out a number of fabrics this month. I added the coneflowers. I wanted a little space for the roses to shine. I wasn’t sure if the coneflower fabric would provide space, but I think it does. It also continues a mini theme from Month 2 (Rosette #1).I have a couple of other coneflower fabrics in different colors and hope to be able to add them in as well. I’d like to add at least one more coneflower fabric to balance out the two I already have.

I also used a Carrie Bloomston fabric for the center, replacing the Curiouser and Curiouser cat fabric. The rainbows don’t show up as well, but I still prefer the newsprint fabric to the cat fabric.

I spent Sew Day on Saturday cutting and basting my La Pass Month 10 pieces. There are under 100 pieces, fortunately, and they are now basted and ready for stitching. I am relieved as I thought I might not have enough time to baste all the pieces.

First, I had to decide on a new center fabric. I am not using the Curiouser and Curiouser cats. They are too scary looking. Tula might like them, but I don’t.

The Carrie Bloomston text fabric is the one I chose for the diamond pieces in the center. It is not the same gold color as the cats, but will work just fine.

I actually changed quite a few fabrics in this month. I hope it works with the rest of the quilt.

La Pass Month 10 arrived FINALLY. It seems like it took forever to get here after I sped through Month 9. Really, it has only been about two weeks and I had a lot of other hand work to do that I really needed to get done.

It’s more green again, but also tending towards yellow. I know they wanted to include more yellow, but the Tiny Beasts fabric was delayed. I am not using the cats and may use the same fabric I used for the Month 7 small rosette center for the Month 10 center. I pulled out some other yellows, but they were brighter than the cats and I wanted to stay in the color range.

I thought I would have time to start basting during a 4 hour meeting yesterday, but i really had to pay attention and take notes, so no basting. 🙁

Half Hexie Fills in the Gap

Half Hexie to date

Because of the light La Pass month, I have been working quite a bit on the Half Hexie Star. It is not as fun as La Pass, but I do want to get it done. I have put so much work into the piece that abandoning it is not an option.

I looked at the piece on the living room floor and it might almost be wide enough as well as long enough. Both ends need some filling in.  Two columns on the right (photo top left) need to be finished.

I am pretty sure it is long enough, but it is definitely not wide enough. First, I assembled as many stars as I could, then I started adding stars to the larger piece. Most of those were foreground stars.

The column on the left (photo right) consists of the stars I have added. The background column to the right of the new stars is pretty complete, so I can add a number of stars and keep my hands busy in the evening.

Soon, I found that I didn’t have any of the white with dots I am using as background stars, so I had to cut more of those. I didn’t have enough paper, which meant I had to remove some of the papers from the larger piece. I like the structure leaving the paper in gives, but needs must. I also ordered some more papers from Paper Pieces.

I started assembling more of the background stars over the weekend. I’ll figure out where to insert them as soon as I get several. I’ll need to cut more fabric and assemble more of the background stars.

La Pass month 10 will be here soon, so I’ll put this back on the back burner except for cutting background fabric.

Month 9 is very light, so I was able to mostly baste it at Craft Night last week and finish during a work meeting.

I am now stitching the pieces together and I think I will finish soon. It is nice to have a light month, but I don’t know what I will do when I finish. More half hexies, I guess.

How Big is M8?

In a comment, Mrs. K asked how big my M8 rosette ended up. I know the paper pieces are larger than the original, but I didn’t know how big the rosette was, so I measured it.

I know the photo is small, but the tape measure says 40 inches! WOW! I am glad there are only a few of these in the quilt. They are pretty hard to maneuver when they are this large. I know I will be challenged when I put the whole thing together.

The day after I finished La Pass M8, Month 9 arrived. More green.

I am still in awe of the way Pink Door gets these out every month.

The fabrics are nicer than last month’s fabrics – brighter, more clear, not as dull. I am replacing the solid with a more emerald color. I just don’t like that solid green. It reminds me of camouflage, the military and the less of that I have to think about right now the better. My only concern is that it will be too close to the mineral green (top center). The fabric I will use is from Art Gallery. It is the perfect color.

La Pass Month 8 Finished

Another month of La Pass is finished. This was a lot of pieces, but I powered through and I am really happy I was able to keep up especially in light of my trip to Portland.

It was kind of a hassle to haul this giant piece across states, but it was also good for me to have some sewing to do while I was away. It was a little of a stressful trip and sewing always helps me relax.

More Half Hexie Stars

Before I went to Portland last week, I finished a bunch of half hexie stars. I think La Pass is good for the other EPP project.

These are pretty cheerful. The purple one in the upper right hand corner is a Tilda print I bought at Calico Creations in Mt Vernon last year. Don’t you love the way the flowers came together in the center?

La Pass Month 8 More Progress

As crazy as it was, I brought La Pass Month 8 with me to Portland. I was able to get a few pieces sewn down once we got to Portland.

I am adding Month 8 pieces to the Month 7 rosette in a ring like I did with Month 1 and 2.

I don’t know if I am sewing the pieces in the most efficient way, but my method is working for me. It is also just evolving. On this piece, I started sewing a whole section together. You can see that on the top towards the right. It didn’t seem to make sense to me to do that way; it seemed awkward somehow.

I tried to think of the pieces in the Hearts and Cones configuration I talked about before. I couldn’t see the pieces that way and nobody in the La Pass/Pink Door FB group made any suggestions. I decided that getting the black diamonds in place would get them out of the way and they would be less annoying to sew on their own. They are to see because of the black table, but they are in between the butterflies.

Later, I wanted to sew while the YM cooked, but I didn’t want to bring my entire kit into the kitchen so I sewed the mineral (acid green fabric) pentagons into sets of two then added them to the Month 7 rosette later. I haven’t added them all yet, as I am trying to alternate the sewing the star points with sewing other pieces. Once I get all of the mineral pentagons then I will just sew chunks of small pentagons and star points to the piece.

I am still enjoying this project. I can’t wait to get back to it later today.

La Pass Month 8 All Basted

I cut and basted a few of those damn triangles at a couple of meetings last week, but did the bulk of the work at Sew Day. I divided up the different shapes and alternated the skinny triangles with all the other shapes. I got the basting done and was able to do a bit of stitching before Sew Day was over.

I also sewed in the evening, so I have a good start for Month 8.

La Pass Month 8 arrived. I am so excited. I had less than a week of no La Pass and it made me crazy. It made me crazy even though I worked on the Half Hexie EPP.

I get so much satisfaction out of the La Pass monthly BOM work. It is especially good now that I have dedicated time and I am not stressed out trying to finish each month knowing I don’t have enough time.

Yep! I finished M7 over the weekend just in time, too because Month 8 will be arriving soon.

I am really pleased with how the ombre looks on the larger rosette. I still want to place the fabrics so they look woven, but I didn’t want to mess up that cool ombre effect. There is another large rosette, so I will plan to do it on that one.
