I finished sashing all of the blocks over the weekend. I really only had a few hours to sew this weekend and that was one of the things I wanted to accomplish.
My next task is to figure out how big the blocks need to be and to trim them. I am not quite sure how to figure that out, though I am sure it will come to me. I am thinking they will end up about 8″.
I also want to try and put some red sashing in between the grey. TFQ wasn’t so sure about the red, but we didn’t put any up between the blocks and try it out. she likes the effect of the blocks floating. I think there is too much grey, though that might change when I trim the blocks.
One of these days I want endless hours to sew! Ionly had a few hours to sew this weekend too. More cleaning than sewing,,,
I only had a few hours this weekend, but got a few things done. Being a bit organized and not caring about cleaning 😉 helps.
I’m not opposed to the idea of a line of red, just not sure about using the red we looked at. It might pull the red out from the dot fabric, but it might clash with the pinker reds that are more prominent in the blocks. Might not, if it is a thin enough line.
Well, we all know where this is going – making a visual decision visually!
Yes! Thank you, Lorraine Torrence for that great line! I will definitely be making visual decisions visually!
All of your blocks look wonderful together! The layout looks very clean and crisp with just the gray sashing. I need to sew like mad to finish up all of mine- 12 more to go!
Did you set your blocks in alpha order, or did you move them around until you liked the layout?
Thanks! I moved them around until I liked the layout. I was trying to balance the color.
Such a pretty top! It looks so crisp and clean with the white background! Those blocks look tiny, what size are they? Curious to see what your quilter will do with it to bring it to life 🙂
I ended up with some grey sashing, but then also red and green sashing as well. You can see the finished top at: https://artquiltmaker.com/blog/2012/11/a-b-c-challenge-top-finished/. There will be big loopy feathers in the border, but otherwise, I don’t remember.
