I am starting the Windmill. for my mom.

The photo shows a test to see what I think of that square dot as a background. I was afraid it would overwhelm the blade fabrics. I think it looks ok.

I have done some piecing and am pleased with the look. The image below shows the quilt laid out on my design wall before I started to piece. I can’t believe how many batiks there are! That is all Friend Julie. She has an amazing collection of batiks!

  1. I have all those batiks because I was subscribed for at least a couple years to equilter’s monthly batik FQ packs. I think it was at least 8 FQs a month so those added up pretty darn quickly. I think they play really well together with all the prints in these windmill quilts.

    1. AH! That makes sense. I didn’t realize you did that or I forgot!. I agree that the batiks play nicely with the other fabrics. I think, like any other fabrics, the maker has to choose and place carefully, but they don’t scream that they are not ‘regular’ prints. That whole rule in Modern Quiltmaking about not using batiks with prints makes me crazy.
