My first thought when I saw this word was of color. We have a multitude of colored fabrics we can use in our quilts to evoke feelings, record memories or just play with.

interesting first impressions — mine was of the range of belief and action… only moved to colour after reading your short blub 🙂
I guess range is a good synonym for spectrum and both of our thoughts go in that direction.
