See * Draw * Quilt * Learn

Sarah Ann Smith of  Art & Quilting in Camden has set up a new blog, soon to be a group blog, with the intent of encouraging people to learn to see so they can improve their drawing.

Sarah started the blog on May 5, so you are not too far behind. She mentions The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain book as one of the resources. You can add this to your list of drawing sites to review, in addition to Gabi Campanario (who now posts at the Seattle Times site) and Urban Sketchers.

  1. I actually went to each link on this post. It was inspirational. I am thinking maybe…for the next word for our creative prompting, that I might try relating it to something in real life that I can sketch.

I am still in a creative slump. I’ve tried reading, watching quilt shows that I’ve recorded, touching fabric, taking out old projects, searching online for new projects, even buying some fabric, and nothing is budging my brain or spirit!

The creative prompt sketches and hand sewing the hexagons together are the only therapies that keep me in touch with anything like creative juices. It is disheartening. However, it is also good that there ARE at the least, these two outlets.

I also live vicariously through your struggles with the ‘Tarts’ quilt. As always, thank you Jaye. 😀

    1. Sherri: get online and buy 2 each of three packs of moda squares. Put them up on your design wall and look at them until you feel like moving them around. Then move them around. Once you are happy sew them together. I did this with about 5 packs of those squares until I felt like cutting my own squares. I was in a super creative slump and that is how I got out of it. It took forever, but it eventually worked. Do it NOW!!!
